Blackmagic Camera App Comes to Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel Smartphones Blackmagic Camera, the professional digital film camera and image processing app, is now available on Android smartphones, according to Monday's announcement. The app features professional-grade video recording tools and was developed by Blackmagic, an Australian digital cinema hardware manufacturer. After its launch on iPhone last year, it has now been introduced to select Android smartphones. Blackmagic Camera features In a newsroom post, Blackmagic announced the expansion of its Camera app to select Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones. It is reportedly built on the same operating system as the company's pricier film cameras, offering digital film features and controls—the same tools used in feature films, television, and documentaries. The Blackmagic Camera app supports Blackmagic Cloud, a network storage solution for media files, enabling collaboration with others using DaVinci Resolve and benefiting from a chat workspace. Additionally, the company asserts it provides a single-tap solution for adjusting settings like frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, and ISO. Users can record media in industry-standard formats up to 8K resolution. This application gives users the option to select from various codecs, such as H.264 (also known as Advanced Video Coding or AVC) and H.265 (identified as High-Efficiency Video Coding or HEVC). Blackmagic Camera enables users to shoot in 16:9 or vertical aspect ratios. It also includes features such as focus assist, zebra, frame guides, and histogram, all of which enhance the videography experience. Videos captured with the app can be timecoded and viewed with thumbnails in the media tab. Blackmagic Camera availability The Blackmagic Camera app is available for free download on the Google Play Store. Although it is now available on the Android platform, its availability is limited to the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S23 series and the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 series.
